Testing Effects

Here I applied the effect of colour changes. So that the footage gradually goes from red to green, to blue, to purple, to pink back to red. This looks good and fits with the lyrics of the song, referring to the word clown, as clowns are colorful. However I don't think that I will take this feature further or into my video because it does not fit with the theme of my music video and it make the video unrealistic.

Lip Syncing

This is footage that I will use in my music video. I think it looks good and effective because of the lighting and backdrop used, the look Molly has in the film and because her lip syncing looks professional in most parts.
I really like the simple pale background and the contrast it has with the black that Molly is wearing.
Her hair and makeup are very natural and pretty that fits with her representation in the video of a vulnerable young girl.

Ellie Goulding - Figure 8

From the point 0:03 to 0:09 she is walking, it looks like she is walking on the ceiling with objects attached to the ceiling and feathers falling, I think something like this would look good in my music video so I tried to figure out how it was done and I think, either that she was walking backwards, dropping the feathers then put a reverse effect on the footage. Then rotated the footage. Or she was walking forward and used a vacuum to lift the feathers from the ground and then rotating the shot. 
I like the use of both black and white and colour, how it starts in black and white then a vivid red in introduced from 0:16 to 0:19 the footage turns gradually from black and whit to colour. I really like this effect and wish to take this through to my video. However because I made need advise on how this works when editing and before filming. A similar thing happens at 1:13 to 1:14. With quick lighting changes added. 
This video has given my inspiration on how to make my mock better.

Selena Gomez - The Heart Wants What It Wants (Official Video)

I really like the start of this video. Before the music even starts there are nice close up shots of Selena from lots of angles, she looks very vulnerable and sad. The video also uses slow motion. Her hair and makeup is very natural. Which I want to incorporate in my video however the video is all in black and white which is what I want to avoid. The video also uses a voice over at the start, I find this interesting and might take this idea further into my video, because it is personal and explains the song more. I like the idea even though it is unconventional.

Ellie Goulding - Love Me Like You Do (Official Video)

I have took inspiration from this video because it has a wide range of cinematography, with lots of different camera angles movements and framing.
It also uses effective lighting and locations. The locations bring lots of colour and light to the video and they are impressive and grand, giving the video an expensive look. 
In parts of the video there are close ups of Ellie in a high angle shot I really like these shot as they are pale/ light they make Ellie look pretty, natural and sweet. There is lens flare used and it contrasts with the rest of the video, because through out the rest of the video it is mainly dark with strong colours.

Mock

Here is the first draft of my music video. I feel like it was unsuccessful and I am not happy with it. However it was a good opportunity for my to practice filming, and editing in order to get a better outcome from this. I have given my self a list of improvements that I will carry out in the near future of this project. These improvements include
1) Making the video in colour, not just black and white.
2) Re-filming the footage in front of the black certain so that I can use better lighting and so that the Molly isn't laughing in sections.
3) Re-film the dance in the dance studio to avoid getting the worksheets on the wall that ruin the mise-en-scene.
4) Film more close up shots so there is a wider range of cinematography used and so that the viewers will feel closer to Molly.
5) Create and get a flow of narrative through the video. Make it clear what the story is through the filming and acting.

Introduction-

Postmodern media is a feature of post modernity

There is no definition of post modernity as it is happening now.

Post modernity is an era that we are living through. Post modernism is the era after and against modernism. It questions and challenges everything that has come before.

There is not just one truth or importance. Individuals have different ideas and things that have meaning to them. There is not just one way of representing something or someone.  And there is no true world view, and reality is from our own individual interpretation.

• Modernist- believes in science, progress and structure.

• Postmodernist- believe progress is not always good, they took at what make things different other than working by Structure and genres. Denies theories believes that all societies are different and there

is no truth.

A good example of Postmodern art is Tracy Emin’s ‘Bed’ there is no real meaning or theory behind the art and everyone has different feelings and views towards it. It is all about personal response.

The bed shows human condition and what it is like to be her.

Renaissance, Neoclassicism, Romanticism, Impressionism, Postimpressionism, Modernism, Cubism, Serialism, Expressionism Contemporary art, Pop art…

 

Human condition- What it’s like to be a human at any given time and how we express it through creations like art. It shows what are important to humans and their experiences.

Postmodern media- TV, Film, Internet, Mobiles, Games, everything to do with art and culture. Now through the mass media, media is more of a reality than reality.

A large part of post modernism is young people expressing themselves and not being controlled.

Postmodernism denies itself I a way, as it is a structure of society that have influence on people, even though that is what the era is against. Irony plays a big part in postmodernism.

Hyper-reality- Our experiences of other societies and places are presented to us through the media. As the media is a copy of the real thing. Simulacra, it is artificial yet real (Disneyland) There are multiple realities.

Media texts can challenge society.

“The median is the message” Marshall Mcluhan.

Media no longer holds a mirror up to society and reality it is reality and society.

New art and media artefacts are influenced by one previous to them. This rejects the notion of originality and authorship. Intertextuality happens, referencing other media texts within the narrative of another. Where the audience will be active to recognize the significance.

Postmodern media shows the decline in meta-narrative

Metanarrative is any story told to justify another story of historical meaning "big story" that gives an explanation for everything that happens in a society. An example is religion and the bible.

Metanarratives give structures and organize/ control people and society, like a political system.

 

There has been a decline due to

1)    Enlightenment

2)    The postmodern beliefs

Enlightenment happened in the 17^th century where science, fact and progress became reality over religion.

Postmodern beliefs are the deconstruction of foundational views which leads to the recognition and acceptance of different views. Creating an alternative society.
