50 word treatment-
Emeli sande- Clown
In this song the lyrics talk about how desperate people are, and the extent they will go to, to become famous. In my music video, I will follow a girl who wants to make it as a dancer, and her struggles to get the respect in the industry. She practices non stop, pushing her body so much, to the point of exhaustion, as she aims to get a part in a show. She puts herself out the to be watch and judged. Only to be told that she isn't good enough and laughed at.

Chosen song lyrics and timing

EMELI SANDE- Clown

I guess it's funnier from where you're standing (0.02-0.05)
'Cause from over here I've missed the joke (0.09-0.12)
Cleared the way from my crash landing (0.17-0.20)
I've done it again, another number for your notes (0.22-0.27)
I'd be smiling if I wasn't so desperate (0.32-0.35)
I'd be patient if I had the time (0.39-0.42)
I could stop and answer all of your questions (0.46-0.50)
As soon as I find out how I can move from the back of the line (0.51-0.57)
I'll be your clown (0.59-1.01)
Behind the glass (1.02-1.05)
Go 'head and laugh (1.06-1.07)

'cause it's funny I would too (1.08-1.11)
if I saw me (1.12-1.13)
I'll be your clown (1.13-1.15)
On your favorite channel (1.17-1.18)
My life's a circus-circus round in circles (1.20-1.25)
I'm selling out tonight (1.25-1.28)
I'd be less angry if it was my decision (1.31-1.34)
And the money was just rolling in (1.38-1.41)
If I had more than my ambition (1.45-1.49)
I'd have time to please (1.50-1.52)
I'd have time to thank you as soon as I win (1.53-1.56)
Chorus:
I'll be your clown (1.58-2.00)
Behind the glass (2.01-2.03)
Go 'head and laugh (2.04- 2.06)

'cause it's funny I would too (2.06- 2.10)
if I saw me (2.10-2.12)
I'll be your clown (2.12-2.14)
On your favourite channel (2.15-2.17)
My life's a circus-circus round in circles (2.19-2.23)

I'm selling out tonight (2.24-2.26)
from the distance my choice is simple (2.29-2.32)
from the distance I can entertain (2.36-2.38)
So you can see me I put make up on my face (2.43-2.47)
But there's no way you can feel it
(2.48-2.50)
from so far away (2.52-2.57)

I'll be your clown (2.58-3.00)
Behind the glass (3.02-3.04)
Go 'head and laugh (3.05-3.07)

'cause it's funny I would too (3.07-3.11)
if I saw me (3.11-3.13)
I'll be your clown (3.13-3.16)
On your favorite channel (3.17-3.18)
My life's a circus-circus round in circles (3.20-3.24)
I'm selling out tonight. (3.25-2.28)

Evaluation

The most challenging thing about making our music video was that getting organised, putting a plan together, this was difficult because we was working in a group and we all had different ideas and plans, it took a while to finally decide on a plan and choose jobs and orginise our time in the group.
Also getting used to the equipment and software, going into the video blind was difficult, not knowing all of the skills needed to use the equipment to make the best video possible, for example doing the editing process was hard because I was new to the software and I had never edited a video before, now I know what I am doing I feel that I could do a better job now.
Therefore next year I know how to improve, I can improve by better planning, I need to carry out more research before, looking at every detail needed to create my video, and gathering everything needed from costume to props and equipment and be less indecisive. But through this task has allowed me to learn lots of skills, hopefully using the skills needed won’t be as difficult now. Because this task has helped me hugely, as I know what the process consists of and what skills are needed, and I am more knowledgeable, also improving my confidence for the next time I make a video. Also not having to work in a group next year may help as I can focus on my own ideas not having to consider others.
Our video was successful because it was similar to the video, we considered locations and props and lighting that was included in the video to create the mise-en-scene of the video with good performance, a range of camera shots and editing that fits the song This helped to make the video look good and interesting and similar to the real video it also helped to tell the story of the video. However it was unsuccessful because of the costume we used and the filming, it looks unprofessional due to the shaky camera shots. Also the costume was different to what featured in the video, for example the bench t-shirt and school uniform and doesn’t fit the mise-en-scene and narrative.

My favourite part of our video was how we tried to challenge ourselfs and we managed to pull it off, this is because we had to put a reverse effect on the shots. Because the real video went from the end to the start, and each movement was in reverse, this was used in the real video to distort the narrative and was very affective. And the worst thing about the video is the filming which I know to improve by using a tripod next year.

Lyric Analysis of Breezeblocks by Alt J

“She may contain the urge to run away but hold her down with soggy clothes and breezeblocks” This line last 5 seconds
(This line coincides with the first shot of the video where the woman is laid in a bath filled with water with a breezeblock on top of her. (To recreate this safely, we will film the shot similarly to the original however we will have someone holding the heavy object outside of the camera shot so that the actress doesn’t get injured.)
To create the dark image that the lyrics portray we are going to use low exposure on a camera. Also we are going to reduce the colour contrast post recording to create disorientation and confusion

There’s a 1 second pause, then there is a cut to the next scene with the guy with his head in his hands- with the lyric “Cetirizine, your fever’s gripped me again, never kisses, all you ever send are full stops” from 06-11 seconds
Then there is a cut to a close up of the guy’s wedding ring during the “la la la la” bit at 0.12 seconds
There is then a cut to a tap running in reverse “do you know where wild things go? They go/ along and take your honey/” with shots inbetween of the woman in the bath and shots of the tap.
Next there is a “La la la la” bit where there is a short, second long shot of the woman in the bath with the water sloshing around with a shot reverse shot from the tap to the woman.
Then there is another shot of the man with his head in his hands at a medium close up when the lyrics are ”break down and weep, build up breakfast now let’s eat, my love, my love/( cut to close up of man with head in hands), love/(cut to close up of woman’s hand), love”/ ( cut to shot of her in the bath with water swirling around)- these scenes coincide with the rhythm of the song- every beat is a new shot in this part
The next line is “muscle to muscle and/ toe to toe, /the fear has gripped me but here I go.” –the shot starts with the man just after he throws a breezeblock at her. It then cuts to another shot of the woman in the bath with the water swirling around, then back to the man just before he throws the block at her. There’s then another shot of the water running in reverse whilst the lyrics are “my heart sinks as I/ jump up” with a cut to the man chasing her into the bathroom at “jump up” also theres a shot of the man chasing the woman for 9 seconds whilst the lyrics are “Your hand grips hand as my eyes shut and ohhhh ohhhh oh.” Theres a second set of “ohs” straight after which cut to the kitchen where he first starts chasing her with a breezeblock.
