Props

For the filming and narrative of my video I need to use certain props and equipment.
1) Lighting,I need a range of strong lighting to get high quality footage and a professional look to my video.
2) Video camera, in order to film my video I need to use a good camera that will shoot at a high quality and pick up the lighting used.
3) Balloons, the balloons hold connotations within my video and the will also give the video an artistic abstract flair.
4) Tripod, the tripod allows steady camera shots and smooth movements, like pans and tilts so that the camera does not shake and jolt from being hand held.
5) Umbrella, to set the mood in my video I will shoot in the rain and the umbrella will be a form of protection also the umbrella will be used to produce abstract shots.
6) Car, The car is needed in the narrative of my video, as my actress will be driving to'auditions'and performances.
7) Lipstick, In my video I will film my actress applying make-up.
8) Mirror, the mirror will be used frequently within the video as part of the narrative and abstract features of the video.

Location

In my video I will used a range of locations from my local town center to times square New York. I will also use simple backdrops and plain dance studios in different stages of my video.
The video will show Molly dreaming of being a dancer in New York. I will film her practicing in the dance studio and on a stage, in front of the curtain. Using a wide range of locations will make my video more entertaining and interesting and more professional as locations are a conventional feature of music videos.

Conventions

Hair and makeup

The images I have selected are what I will base my hair and make up on, in my music video. I want my model to look natural yet stylish. I will keep the make up simple with a little eyeliner and mascara and a light pink lip. And the hair in various styles, in a loose bun, wavy and straight. For most of the video I want my model to have straight hair.

Sample of filled in questionnaires

Problems when filming

1) I began to film in the green room at college, however I didn't book the room out, so half way through filming we was asked to leave as someone else had booked out the room.

2) I was filming molly dancing in the dance studio, and the room has mirrors on every wall, therefore you could see me filming, in the mirrors, on the footage. Also the dance studio has worksheets on the walls so when i film molly in the background there are students work, this ruins the mise-en-scene.

3) The dress I had in mind for filming, that I wanted Molly to wear, she couldn't find so we had to make do with an alternative dress.

4) After I had filmed Molly, I wanted to save the footage on a computer at college. However in my documents there was not enough space to store the size of the film. So I had to leave the video on the memory card and come back the following day with my memory stick.

How the results helped me

The results of the questionnaire gave me great insight into my target audience and what they like to see.
I now that my main target audience is females aged 15-25.
That the majority of people watch music videos online via Youtube. I know that my main audience of females favorite genre of music is pop music.

Looking at the answers to every person I asked I found out that they prefer music video with combinations of narrative, abstraction and performance. Which helped me plan my music video, and decide to include both performance and narrative in my video.

The results also showed me that people watch music videos just for the video and not for the song, for reasons such as getting to know the artist more and for entertainment.

Test shots

This shot was filmed in the green room at college. This room was good to use because of the backdrop and lighting, I tested out different lighting combinations, to see what gave the best effect, I found that what worked best in the shot was the red sky lights and one side spot light.

The Veronicas - You Ruin Me

When searching through music videos for ideas and inspirations I came across this video that had a similar narrative and theme as my video. Which gave me further help and ideas for my music video.
The video features girls in a ballet class practicing, the main girl is being let down by the instructor, he has all the control and she is angry and upset, it almost like he is saying she isn't good enough.
The video has shots that I have print screened that I am going to take inspiration from in my own music video.

I have print screened this clip of the video because
